Mike’s Maths

Our approach to teaching is a simple one:

Tell me and I will forget.
Show me and I may get it.
INVOLVE me and I will get it.

I have been teaching since 2007 and I am convinced of the wisdom of this quote. We all learn better when we involve ourselves in what we are learning.

At Mike’s Maths, we make every effort to involve you in your learning.  How do we do that?

Well, each lesson is designed to give you the best chance of success.  The basics of each topic are explained in a simple, no nonsense manner.  You will see worked examples, which demonstrate how to apply the methods that you are learning to answer relevant questions.

We encourage you to pause the lesson at certain points so that you can have a go at answering questions yourself.  When you are ready, you simply press the play button to see Mike go through the answers with you so that you can check your work. This definitely gets you involved in the lesson!

When the lesson is finished, you can go back over it.  Fast forward over the parts that you understood well, and replay any parts that you may need to see again.

To involve you further, we invite you to download the free worksheet that goes with each lesson.  Answer the questions in your own time and use the answers provided, to check your own work.  If you have struggled with any of the questions, then go back to the lesson and replay the part that will help.

An extra feature of our GCSE and IGCSE program, (available from January 2018) is that for most of the topics, we will be offering a further video lesson called Past Paper Questions. In this lesson, we feature 2 or 3 past paper questions relating to that topic.  Again, you are encouraged to get involved.  You could try the questions yourself, and then press play when you are ready to watch as Mike takes you through a full explanation of the workings needed to get full marks.

Whether you just choose to buy from our library of up-to-date lessons, or take advantage of our Membership plans, don’t miss out on our Exam Coaching sessions for all Key Stages as well as GCSE and IGCSE courses. It often gets overlooked as we concentrate on the syllabus but good exam technique can turn a Level 5 to a Level 6, a D to a C or an A to an A*.

Watch our expert tutorial about exam technique and how to improve on each point. Follow our top tips to exam success. Watch as Mike talks you through past paper questions to demonstrate our top tips in action.

Then choose a past paper and watch as Mike takes you through each question, showing full worked answers whilst highlighting top exam tips.
